Bubu in BU

  Framing Options

Object: Bubu in BU           Sold

Materials: Italian Smalti on Cement Board

Dimensions: 10.5 " x 6.5"

Method: Direct with mortar

Here, I had some fun with richly colored Italian Smalti. Smalti usually comes in solid glass bricks roughly 1.5 x 1 x .5 cm in size. They have been hand-cut to these dimensions and are ready to be cut down further into the shapes and sizes required.
This is the material most often used in the colorful mosaics on the ceilings and walls of churches. The rough texture gives this highly reflective material a wonderful sparkle as light bounces across the surface.

These peacock colors are a complete departure from the calm effect the marble provided in my other recent work. I wanted to further explore the design of a previous piece, "Achza in Silhouette", by adding tonal information.

Achza's nickname, especially for those who stumble on the pronunciation, is "Bubu".
The second part of the name of this piece "BU" is a nod to my previous life with Genigraphics, the term used for the color blue.

This time I made an effort to document the progress, so be sure to click on the detail shots, on the right, to see the evolution of this piece.
